Here we arrived at the mid point of my experience, three months went away surprisingly fast but full of great and intense experiences and what's waiting for me in the early future is going to be even better if it's possible.
During this third month of my EVS I had a rough time, getting overtaken by the huge load of emotions gathered since the beginning of this experience with a bit home-sickeness added. I have to say being surrounded by all this amazing people helped a lot getting over this period pretty quick just because we all know that during experience like this rough moments will come for sure, especially if you're far from home but it's thank to people around that you manage to win these feelings; surround yourself with people that understands you, with people with you can truly be yourself and you'll be at home, wherever you are. Many things happened this month but this for sure was the most important one, I want to thank my new family once again, thanks for everything people.

After two months full new experiences September was again time for other activities, most of them new for me.
During the first two weeks I took part at two different expeditions, the first weeks I was helping with the logistic part of the project, in the second one, instead, I had the opportunity to be on the field helping the instructors with the group. With the logistic part I've been helping around the house to prepare all the equipment needed for the expeditions and then delivering supplies to the camp sities whenever it was needed and there I had the opportunity to learn the basics of how to manage a project like that. During the same week I had also the chance to try rock-climbing: this was the first time for me and it was such an experience! The rock that we climbed wasn't that challenging at first sight so while I was helping the group with the climbing equipment et cetera I was pretty confident in trying it with no problem at all, but as soon my turn came, when I approached the rock, the fear started. In that moment I was scared as hell even though everything was done in a complete safety enviroment since both instructors and specialists were there to help and guide me but after I managed to fight my fear, reaching the top was one the best feeling I've ever felt in my entire life, defently worth it. That's it guys, soon I'll tell you more about my journey so stay tuned folks! :) Always during the past August my parents came here to visit me after my first month and a half here. They had the chance to meet the persons I'm working with and where I live and I was really happy and relieved when I saw the look on their face and the approval smile that they had, cos we all know how it works, no matter how old we are, we'll always be our parent's kids and they will always take care of us. Of course, when I decided to come here they were happy but a bit worried, as I was as well, about how my would have been here, but when they came here they realised how happy I was of my choice and of my job here and their happiness was my biggest reward so far here. I could stay here and describe you step by step all the places that we visited in those days but I'll the pictures do the job. :) Ok everybody, let's start from here. The past August I spent two beatiful weeks in Veliki Žitnik, the small village where OBC has its educational center, for a short-term EVS that we organised. It was the first time that I was taking part to a project like this as a Staff member and I have to say, it was challenging of course but it was an amazing experience. We had a lot of fun but we also had the chance to meet amazing people, learn from them as they were learning from us. I was so impressed when I discovered how a short period of time like two weeks can leave such an important mark in you. The picture in the corner is maybe my favorite of that period, Rob and I went crazy as always eating peanuts and that was the result haha! I'm truly greatful to spend the most challenging and life-changing period of my life with him and the other volunteers, with them I'm free to be 100% myself with no fear of being left aside. This is EVS for me, this is what can clearly define my experience here so far.
Hello again everyone,
As you saw from the title the past week I took part at the On-arrival training, a 6 day training camp that every new volunteer that starts a long term EVS has to do. The ladies and boys that you see in the picture were with me during this adventure and they were simply amazing, I couldn't ask for a better company. We met each other for the first time in our life on Monday 23rd and at the end of the week we were like brothers, they're so kind and friendly, let me introduce them to you: -Ladies first so, Ivana (Macedonia) and Beyza (Turkey) -For the guys we have Emanuel (Portugal), Matteo (Italy), Enes and Ayturk (both from Turkey) I'll never stop to say what an amazing group and I'm sure that at some point I'll meet them all again, I really hope so at least. During this week we learnt loads of stuffs about EVS, how it works and a lot also about our tasks during this project but we also learnt many things about ourself, it was a great opportunity to have a look inside ourself and try to understand better who we are. Last but least I have to thank Domagoj and Lidija, our trainers, they were the best, with no doubt, they helped us to get a riddle of our doubts and weakness let's say, it was just undescribable how it went. If some of you is reading this, thank you, thank you from the deep of my soul. Anyway this is it for today, more upcoming events are about to start in a few weeks so as always stay tuned folks! :) Nice to see you again guys!
So, my first week is gone and it seemed to me that one day is passed by since I came here in Zagreb. Well, what can I say? This city is simply amazing, if you're searching for, even the strangest or craziest thing or place you can image, you'll find it here! I'm literally speachless thinking about all the things that the other volunteers and I did in such a small amount of time! But we're here also and mainly to work, I spent my first week at the office trying to understand what my jobs are and it was fun, all my colleagues are so friendly and helpfull, trust me, you won't even feel the language gap; everytime you need something or there's something you don't understand there's someone beside you ready to help and teach you if needed. From this week I'll start traveling, I'll 10 days on a camp with 2 school groups and I'll be on the field with them! I'm so excited for this, it will be my first experience camping so far, let's see how it goes guys! I'll keep you updated later on! Stay tuned folks! Hi everyone!
Welcome to our OBC blog where my team mates and I will keep you updated on our journey with the purpose of sharing with you all how amazing being part of an EVS, especially with OBC, really is! But before we get into that I have to answer to the first question, 'Who's that guy?' Greetings everyone, my name is Stefano aka 'The Monkey', if we'll ever meet you'll understand why, I'm 22 years old and I'm from a little town named Chiavari near Genova, Italy. I'm a sport addicted, I tried many sports in my life and I still like practicing any kind physical exercise; I used to play basketball when I was a kid but then I also went swimming for a couple of years and right now I'm more into martial arts, mostly thai box and mixed martial arts, I'm not that skilled yet but I'm enjoying it so much. I'm also a musician and music is my source of energy let's say, I'm a metalhead but through the years I've listened to literally every kind of music existing I think. Last but not least, I love nature and that's the main reason why I choose OBC as EVS hosting organization and I'm happy that they accepted me in their family, their simply amazing and with experiences like this you can literally change your life into something better for sure . Stay tuned folks, the adventure it's just started and there's many things to see and places to explore together! Stefano. |
